Alan Mullery has ended his consultants role at Crawley Town.
Mullery arrived in the position, which was originally described as permanent, in September on a brief to make the newly full-time outfit more professional. Despite the move to full-time Crawley have struggled at the wrong end of the Conference all season and have seen a series of acrimonious departures from both the playing squad and backroom staff.
Mullery has told the local press that: "I agreed to help them up until Christmas and I was there three mornings a week. I gave them advice on a lot of things around the club and they have taken most of it. My brief when I came in was to help the club become more professional and I think I have done that because a lot of things have improved."
"Various players and staff have left and the club is professionally run much better. However, they now have a manager with a lot of experience and the chairman is running things so I am leaving them to it."
The departure of Mullery has left Crawley fans wondering quite what he achieved, with several less than glowing reports of his work appearing on the Crawley forum.
