In a Q&A session on the Crawley Town forum, it has been reported that the side are operating on a lower budget than under previous manager Francis Vines.
Ben Taylor, Crawley's assistant General Manager, stated: "When we first took over, we heard from Steve Duly and Francis Vines that we needed to spend so much on the squad. But some of the players were on crazy money and had crazy deals. Francis Vines's budget was astronomical - we are talking in terms of approaching Stevenage's level - and Chas realised that we couldn't sustain that level of spending. The current budget is still plenty to get the job done."
Stevenage are also referred to regarding Stevenage's claims that Crawley's offer for Anthony Elding was a buy now, pay later deal: "I don't know why they said that. The offer was up front and Chas said he'd drive the money up to them himself if they wanted. We had discussions with Stevenage but they just didn't want to sell him to us. We were disappointed, but on the other hand he will be a free agent again in the summer."
Crawley were taken over by the SA Group last summer, and the new owners have faced criticism over a series of departures and the club's poor league form this season.
