Cambridge Make Offer For Stadium

The Cambridge Evening News reports that in a meeting on Monday, the Cambridge board of Directors made several proposals regarding the Abbey Stadium.

The site was bought in December 2004 by Bideawhile, a company owned by vice-chairman John Howard and business partner Steven Clark. The £1.92m sale gave the club a lease on the stadium for 50 years at an annual rent of £200,000.

Finance Director Nick Pomery said: "There was a long and very intense discussion and we've put these proposals to John Howard and he has gone away to consider them. Until he comes back with a response there's not a lot more I can say. Things are never straightforward. A plan to repurchase the ground is on the table, but there are a number of other possibilities and these are being considered.
"It's going to take a little while but we're talking in terms of days or a short number of weeks. It was quite a productive discussion and as always I'm hopeful we'll get an outcome that works for the club and enables us to move forward as well as one that works for Bideawhile. But the question has got to be answered soon because we can't continue in a situation where there's so much uncertainty and there's clearly a lot of ill feeling around."
