Former Bulls defender Tom Smith, who joined Truro last week, admitted in the Non League Paper that his decision to leave Edgar Street was the wrong one:
"I'll always regret walking out on Hereford. It was a big, big mistake, but my head wasn't right. I made a rash decision to go in and see Graham Turner and tell him it wasn't working for me at Hereford."
Smith places some of the blame for his problems with a failed relationship: "They say love is blind, but I spent four years in the relationship and everything became too much." After a final holiday with the now ex-girlfriend, Smith moved to Devon to live with his mother and step-father and work in the family business.
"Living and working down here has given me a focus. I wanted to get back into football and trained at Tiverton Town, but I couldn't get into the team. Steve Massey (Truro manager) heard of my situation and here I am. I can't thank Mass enough for giving me the opportunity to play football again. This is a tremendous club and they are really going places. I don't consider it's stepping down levels. I believe it's my first step back up."
Massey believes Smith will return to the senior game: "This guy will return to professional football. I still can't believe we've got him. The guy is just class - it's just lifted everyone at the club."
