Future of Confguide uncertain

Recent unsavoury postings on the Confguide forum have prompted owner ukbetting plc to review the sites future.

Confguide was purchased from Yeovil fan David Stevenson some months ago. However the site is said to be based on very old technology.

ukbetting are understood to be in the process of upgrading the technology and have, in the short term, increased the manual monitoring of the site.

However it is beleived that if the changes aren't made quickly and have the desired effect of cutting out unsavory postings, the site may close.

"If the site cannot be made into an asset for Conference Football and its supporters then it will be closed to avoid any further instances like this occuring," said a source.

Confguide is thought to be regulated from South Africa. Its main function now appears to be to obtain more betting revenue for the parent company.

Other sites in the group such as Conference Football TV are not beleived to be affected by the review.

Confguide used to be by far the best Non-League site. However because of the sponsorship deals between ukbetting and the Conference chiefs, the site simply reproduces news from elsewhere and seems to toe the official line.

In the past, when it was independent, the site often provided supporters with news and views not always printed elsewhere.
