Burton Albion defender Ryan Austin could miss Saturday's match with Hereford United. The Brewers Physio, Matt Brown, told the Burton Mail that he first feared Austin could have broken a metatarsal - similar to the injuries suffered in recent years by England stars David Beckham and Wayne Rooney.
"Ryan came to training on Monday with a badly bruised foot," said Brown. "It was serious enough for us to want a second opinion and fortunately we were able to quickly arrange an x-ray that gave the all-clear as far as a break was concerned.
"He got stamped on in the Stevenage game and basically he's got two stud marks on top of his foot.
"We're wrapping him up in cotton wool at the moment and we'll see whether he can kick a ball in training tomorrow."
Should Austin miss the game then Aaron Webster would probably switch to the heart of the defence, with Terry Henshaw returning at full-back.
Another Burton player, Irish midfielder Keith Gilory, is also doubtful after coming off after an hour of Saturday's game with a hamstring strain.
"Keith might be right for Saturday, but I would expect him to fit for the FA Cup tie against Leek the following week."
Also out is defender Lee Ayres with a pelvic injury and on-loan striker Danny Bacon.
