Turner pleased with front men

Hereford United manager Graham Turner was also encouraged with this sides' display according to a Southport website.

"I thought for 80 minutes we played very well, were very professional and went about the task in the right manner. It looked as thought it was going to be comfortable but the last 10 minutes it got a little bit hairy for us but we didn't expect anything less than that.

"This wasn't the best of draws when it came out and there was always that risk of an upset but we've done that right.

"We've come here and played quite well, passed it well and certainly created a number of good chances and in the end we deserved to win it, there's no doubt about that."

He was also delighted with the preformances of his forward pairing.

"Both Adam Stansfield and Lee Mills missed a lot of training this week and I thought both of them contributed a lot to the game, which was important to us. They are two good front men, just starting to get an understanding between them and it was a good job they were fit because we desperately needed them."

And, looking forward to Sunday's draw for the next round:

"Obviously a home draw is important and we'd like to be in the hat for the third round."

Southport manager, Liam Watson, commented that he had doubts about the first two Hereford goals:

"They got the rub of the green as it looked like a foul on Kevin Lynch when he was running through and from that challenge they broke and scored a goal. It was a great goal, a brilliant header, but I'm not very surprised as he's played all of his career in the top flight."

He also added that the players were unsure Stansfield's second should have stood.

"In the dressing room they feel it wasn't in, but he gave it and then we were a bit shell-shocked but I thought we showed a bit of character in the last 20 minutes and I thought we peppered them but it just wasn't to be."
