Brown out for six weeks

Hereford United's summer signing David Brown has cracked a bone in his shoulder and will be out for at least six weeks. It is understood that he was involved in a training accident with Richard Teesdale yesterday and had his injury confirmed this morning.

This may mean that Brown could miss at least four Conference games for the Bulls.

Meanwhile, Hereford United defeated Grosvenor Park 4-0 earlier this evening. Danny Wiliams scored twice and trialist Danny Bertram got his first goal for the club. Mel Henry opened the scoring with an own goal.

No new trailists were on show and Gethin Jones who impressed on Monday was not in the squad but Jordan King did play and had a good game.

There was an attendance of 67 of which about a third were Hereford fans. Keith Hall's report, complete with statistics, is below.

Emphatic win for Hereford

Grosvenor Park 0 - 4 Hereford United

Hereford United picked up their first win of the 2003/04 season, as they beat Midland Alliance side Grosvenor Park 4-0.
Despite missing David Brown, who picked up an injury in training, and Steve Guinan and Ben Smith, the Bulls' professional status was too much for Grosvenor.
The first goal came early on, after just four minutes. A Paul Parry free-kick wide on the right deflected off Melvin Harry and past Carl Bishop to find the back of the net, much to the delight of the twenty five or so Hereford fans in a tiny crowd of sixty-seven.
Danny Williams managed to find the side netting after ten minutes, but went one better nine minutes later after a Jordan King shot was spilled by the 'keeper for Williams to fire home the rebound, following up quickly and efficiently.
Williams calmly prodded home the third two minutes later when a Danny Bertram shot was once again spilled by Bishop in the Grosvenor goal. This allowed the ex-Chesterfield midfielder to make the most of another opening, and he extended Hereford's lead to three goals.
After Dean Craven's penetrating run down the left, Williams should have notched his hatrick before the break but managed to miss the target with eleven minutes of the half remaining. In fact, the first half was completely dominated by the Bulls, as Grosvenor were unable to get a shot on-target to trouble Matt Baker.
Just after the hour mark, the move of the match saw Jamie Pitman, on as a substitute, knocked a twenty-five yard ball to Bertram, but the trialist fired wide of the Grosvenor goal, and a crushing challenge on Andy Tretton with twenty minutes to go saw Marlon Sylvester having a severe talking-to by the referee, but in the spirit of the friendly atmosphere, no card was issued.
There were several decent openings before United added a fourth to cap off their evening with six minutes to go. Man of the match Jordan King threaded a ball through to Danny Bertram, who scored at the second attempt after his first effort was blocked.
