Past players in FA Cup glory

It's good to see some ex-Hereford United favourites featuring in the FA Cup yesterday.

Chris Lane's long-range strike for Southport ensured they made the second draw with a 4-2 win over second division Notts County.

John Brough was booked as Cheltenham Town side beat Conference-topping Yeovil Town 2-0, who played Michael McIndoe in midfield.

Former United midfielder Jimmy Harvey, now manager of Morecambe, saw his side pull off a shock 2-1 victory at Chesterfield of Division Two, whilst third division Leyton Orient, who featured Dean Smith in defence, were held to a 1-1 draw by Conference side Margate.

Stafford Rangers, managed by ex-United coach Phil Robinson and including Danny Davidson in the starting eleven, were hopeful of a result at Shrewsbury Town but went down to a 4-0 defeat.

In today's televised FA Cup tie, the BBC's commentator, John Motson, gave Hereford United plenty of references thanks to Forest Green Rovers' links with the club. The Gloucestershire side, who held higher-graded Exeter City to a goalless draw, are managed by Colin Addison and featured former United favourite Neil Grayson as a substitute.

Also, United striker Scott Voice made an impact yesterday during his loan spell at Hinckley United. The Leicestershire-based side drew 2-2 at Bath City as Voice scored twice, the first goal coming courtesy of a Wayne Dyer cross.
