Hereford win again
Hereford United beat Leigh RMI tonight by a two goal margin. Matt Clarke put the Bulls in front and they doubled their advantage when Jamie Pitman scored on the seventy second minute.
Bulls move into
fourth
Leigh
RMI 0 - 2 Hereford United
Hereford United notched up yet another
away victory as they brushed aside Leigh RMI at Hilton
Park.
A goal in each half was enough to secure all three points for a Bulls side still missing skipper Ian Wright and unchanged from Saturday's 2-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge
It took just three minutes for United to open the scoring as Steve Guinan and Michael Rose linked well for Rose to swing over a cross from the left. Matt Clarke was making an incoming run from the right flank and he blasted the ball low past the goalkeeper to break the deadlock.
Two minutes later, Stuart Whittaker struck the United crossbar with a cross-cum-shot from the Leigh left wing, but Hereford never really looked like conceding in the first period as goalkeeper Matt Baker soaked up any pressure that the home side exerted. In fact, it was something of a surprise that Hereford were only a goal to the good at the break as midway through the half, Richard Teesdale and Paul Parry worked a good move into the box which Danny Williams picked up fifteen yards from goal. His shot rebounded away to safety off the post.
After the break, Hereford remained in the ascendancy for the majority and came very close to extending their advantage just three minutes after the restart. A Rose cross found Williams in the box, but his effort was deflected wide in a scramble.
Whittaker continued to provide Leigh's main threat but his low shot after fifty three minutes was saved easily by Baker in the United goal. A six-man Hereford move three minutes later almost resulted in a goal, as a Danny Williams cross hoped to find Clarke at the far post, but the wing-back was unable to get his head onto the ball.
With seventeen minutes left, United finally doubled their advantage. A ball in by Jamie Pitman was nodded home by Paul Parry from close range in a relatively simple move.
Danny Williams could have made it 3-0 as he cut in from the left two minutes later, shrugging off a couple of challenges before his shot was saved well by Leigh 'keeper Stuart Coburn, who also spilled a Steve Guinan shot late on.
Hereford are now fourth in the table and would be just two points off the top of the league if they won their game in hand. Leigh, on the other hand, remain one-from-bottom.
