United held by solid Chester
Hereford United were held to a 0-0 draw by Chester City who have still yet to concede a goal away from home this season. Michael Rose went closest to putting the Bulls ahead with two minutes left when his free kick was turned over the bar by Wayne Brown.

There will be few complaints at today's scoreline which saw Chester City hold Hereford United 0-0 at Edgar Street.

The Bulls missed Paul Parry with an ankle injury but Michael Rose's hip recovered sufficiently to allow the ex-Chester defender to start in the left-wing back role.

The first half was a scrappy affair with Steve Guinan impressing early on, but it soon became evident that the man-marking system employed by City was paying dividends. Neither defence was really tested early on, although Andy Tretton fired a long ball at Wayne Brown and a Jimmy Kelly free-kick forced Matt Baker to pull off a save in the Hereford goal.

Andy Tretton missed the target with a second long-range effort on nineteen minutes, and two minutes later Kevin McIntyre fired in an effort which was deflected wide at the other end.

Michael Rose tested the 'keeper with a free-kick as the half died out, as a twenty five yard effort was caught well.

After the break, the number of chances increased but no goals were forthcoming. A Michael Rose corner on fifty seven minutes reached Danny Williams, who fired over from six yards out after Brown had spilled the ball. Twenty minutes from time, Baker saved from both Scott Guyett and Mark Beesley in a dramatic goalmouth scramble, but the ball once again was cleared.

With four minutes to go, Ian Wright fired a Danny Williams cross wide of the target before Michael Rose was prevented from scoring Hereford's best effort of the match when his thirty yard screamer was tipped over the crossbar by Brown.

In the final minutes, Hereford really piled on the pressure but as it was, they had to make do with a draw.
