Hereford have now lost six matches in a row after falling to a 2-0 defeat against Macclesfield at Edgar Street.
After a goalless first half where Hereford created very little in the way of chances, with the best seeing Andy Williams head wide from point blank range, the visitors took an early lead after the break.
Skipper Paul Dawson headed home a corner unmarked at the back post for his first, before adding a second in the 86th minute to seal the win as they hit a leggy Hereford on the break.
While Howkins had hit the upright with a header from a set piece earlier in the half, and the woodwork denying a late consolation goal for three hosts, the Bulls rarely looked like scoring in another disappointing evening at Edgar Street.
