Bizarre decision, says Turner

Writing in today's programme, Graham Turner went to some length to explain his version of the so-called penalty decision which cost the Bulls the possibility of progressing in the LDV Trophy last Tuesday.

"Tuesday evening's match against Northampton was a cracking game, it was just a pity that it was watched by such a small crowd. Our dressing room had an air of despondency about it after the match, we felt that we had outplayed our 2nd Division opponents for long periods and derserved to progress to the next round of the LDV Trophy.

"We paid the penalty of losing concentration in the final minute and allowed Northampton to equalise from a long free kick, which we failed to clear.

"The winner for them came via the penalty spot to give them the Golden Goal but I have to say that it would rank amongst the worst refereeing decisions I have seen in my time in football in awarding the penalty in the first place. It was a bizarre decision against Andy Tretton who was the last defender, he failed to take any further action, no yellow or red card.

"If I was a cynical old sod I'd suggest that he didn't fancy another twenty four minutes of extra time and the time taken up by penalties, he just wanted to get back on the road to his north-west home, so he took the first possible opportunity to bring the game to a conclusion.

"Having viewed it twenty times on video, if it was a genuine mistake mistake it may well rank as one of the worst in his career. Whichever, he possibly cost us a place in the next round of the LDV Trophy and much needed revenue."
