Ricky Lee has watched Hereford's latest signing Fin Holmes and wrote about him last February.
Club: Halesowen
Strong foot: Right
Fin Holmes is my favourite player to watch in the Southern League Premier Central since he was sold to Haleoswen by Solihull Moors in September.
He can play across the front line, he’s incredibly fast and plays with more intensity than any forward in the league I’ve watched this season. At Halesowen, he’s played in a front 2 with license to move into wide areas and utilise his ability in 1v1 situations. He regularly beats his man but isn’t disheartened by being tackled and will run at his man throughout the 90.
For his size, he’s strong and gets his body between defender and ball to hold play. He makes a lot of runs behind, doesn’t give up on loose balls. Always tries to at least force a defensive mistake. Recently, he’s become more effective at attacking the box after linking play, which is something I thought he struggled with in his loan at Stourbridge.
Technically, he looks raw, but in the things that matter for a forward, he’s effective. He generates space for shots well and finishes from wide areas. He’s decent in 1v1 situations, but could need some technical refinement to make the most of his tenacity higher up. He weighs passes well and has started to show a more creative side to his game recently. His decision-making is good around the box and has formed a fruitful relationship with Jason Cowley this season.
He’s shown he can perform in senior football with 11 goals this season at step 3 and against top-level academies. He could be playing in an EFL academy at the moment, and I think he’ll have a career in the football league.
