We Will Nurse The Pitch Said Hereford Chairman

There was some relief at Hereford that last Saturday's FA Trophy tie went ahead given the weather but Chairman Chris Ammonds has admitted that they will have to nurse the pitch until the end of the season.

"It's going to be an on-going challenge for the rest of the season in terms of the way the weather is," said Ammonds.

"We're just going to have to nurse the pitch through to the end of the season.

"We've already got the plans drawn up for replacing the drainage at the end of the season then doing the pitch refurb after that which will hopefully resolve the problems we've had.

"Obviously there have been problems caused by the heavy machinery that had to go on the pitch to install the floodlights at the Meadow End. There was no way of getting to those areas with heavy machinery without going across the  pitch to put the floodlight pylons at the Meadow End. So that had to be done.

"But also I'm sure people have noticed there are other areas of the pitch where the heavy machinery didn't go on where there are also drainage issues and that just shows that the drainage system is coming to the end of its life and why we need to replace it in the closed season."
