Chorley boss hails cutthroat ‘top drawer’ display – and backs Caddis to sort Bulls out

A happy Andy Preece after the final whistle

A cutthroat Chorley side won the game at Edgar Street in the first 25 minutes - but boss Paul Caddis will turn things around.

That's the verdict of Chorley manger Andy Preece who said it was a comprehensive win for his ruthless side.

The Magpies boss said they were "top drawer" and looked "really good", praising their passing, movement and creativity.

With a three goal cushion by the 22nd minute, before adding a fourth after Eno Nto pulled a goal back for Hereford in the second half, there was only going to be one winner at Edgar Street on Saturday.

He told the Chorley's YouTube channel after the game: "We felt we could get a little bit of joy out wide with them playing a back three, or a back five, and we managed to exploit that. But then you've got to have the quality to get in.

"Some of the passing, the movement, the finishes, were great. We didn't let up, that was the thing I liked in the first 20 minutes, we never stopped.

"We got one, we didn't sit back, we went again and we went again. We created other chances in that opening 25 minutes."

The 58-year-old Evesham-born boss said that while it wasn't a comfortable game, the fourth goal "knocked the wind" out of Paul Caddis's side despite a flurry of chances in the second half.

"In that first 25 minutes, that was probably where the game was won," Preece, who played more than 500 games as a player and has since racked up more than 1,000 in management, concluded.

He also praised the Hereford fans at Edgar Street: "I don't think they ever stopped."

While he said it was a difficult opening for the more than 2,500 Bulls fans, he reckons Caddis will work things out and get it right after a tough start where Hereford have only picked up three points from an available 12.

"He [Caddis] needs a backing and you can see he's got the backing of the fans today," Preece added.
