Herefordshire Council is changing one of the ways you pay for parking at its car parks, including Merton Meadow.
The Conservative-run council said cashless parking across the county is switching to a new provider – JustPark. This does not affect the pay and display machines in the car park, which will continue to operate as normal, accepting cash and card.
Drivers will be able to use JustPark from Tuesday 7th January. The last day that motorists will be able to use RingGo, the current provider, is Friday 10th January.
It is encouraging locals who use cashless parking to download the JustPark app as soon as possible so that they are fully prepared for the new service.
There will be no change in pricing for cashless parking.
Cllr Barry Durkin, cabinet member for roads and regulatory services, said: “We are pleased to be partnering with JustPark to deliver our cashless parking option from early in the new year with no changing of prices.
"We appreciate that there will be a new app and a new experience for the public to get used to. This is why we are urging those who frequently use cashless parking to please download the JustPark app as soon as possible, to familiarise themselves with it and avoid any last minute difficulties when the service switches over.
“We’d also like to remind people that it is important that they only download apps from a proper app store. There have been instances in the past of people falling victim to scam apps, so it is important that this risk is avoided.”
