Scunthorpe United fans have been left questioning the National League North club's decision to terminate the contract of their head of football operations.
In a statement today, the Glanford Park outfit said the door would always be open for Lee Turnbull to return.
The 57-year-old returned to the Attis Arena for his latest stint at the club in April 2022, taking on the role of chief operating officer, while later becoming chief executive officer and then a brief stint as chairman.
With over a quarter of a century of service to the club over four decades, the club said they would like to place on record their thanks to Turnbull for his dedicated service to the club.
They also praised him for his dignity in navigating the club through some of the darkest days of the history of Scunthorpe United, and wish him well for the future, with the door always open for him to visit us at any point.
However, fans on social media have called the club to give an explanation for the sudden departure.
One fan on Twitter said: "Something feels very very wrong. We are used to things feeling very wrong."
Another said: "Think the fans deserve a bit more of an explanation than that."
While a third said: "Always spoke passionately about the club when I listened to him on Radio Humberside and on commentaries. Sad loss to the club."
Questions have been asked over the club's summer recruitment. Before Tuesday's game, they sat second in the table, three points behind leaders Chorley.
