Hereford Under 18's played ROStars at Old School Road, the home of Pegasus, in the HFA County Cup this evening.
Manager Paul Caddis decided on selecting an under 18 squad with no senior players involved. Given the numer of players with injuries this wasn't all that surprising.
ROStars had a chance to take the lead on 20 minutes when a strike from 20 yards hit the crossbar.
But it was Hereford who took the lead on 26 minutes. Superb wing play by Parry and Mayo-Evans with a good finish.
Described as a 'pest like Cowley' Parry got to the by-line, beat two players and put in a lovely cross to Mayo-Evans who had plenty of space, none of RO's front five had bothered to run back, he dinked it and it went in off the left hand post.
Five minutes later the scores were level. ROStars took advantage of poor defending.
Mayo-Evans had a chance to put the Bulls ahead but his shot was well saved. Later a header from Crump went just over the bar.
The RO left back is quite entertaining. When he has taken a throw-in he does a cart-wheel.
So all to play for at half-time.
Half time: 1-1
Hereford started the second half brightly and on 53 minutes took the lead. Scott with a shot from distance.
He cut in, beat his man, and shot towards the near post, the keeper somewhat out of position.
Then little to report until the 80th minute when Hereford went 3-1 ahead. Substitute Hill with the goal.
ROStars thought they had scored a second but it was ruled out for offside.
Nine added minutes of extra time but Hereford held on to go through.
Final Score: ROStars 1 Hereford 3
Hereford Starting Eleven: Tandy, Lin, Davis, Locke, George, Crump, Mayo-Evans, Scott, Rhodes, Allport, Parry
Subs: Hill, Bradley, Wickham
Attendance circa 120.
A young Hereford side deserved their victory but they could struggle against a stronger side which, no doubt, they will meet in the next round.
