Fans Turn on Team at Leamington

Hereford fans travelled in good numbers to Leamington with about 300 Bulls attending. During the game chants against the Whites from some of their fans gradually increased. You’re not very good if you’re only winning 1 0 being sung just before the Brakes scored their second goal. Perhaps thirty or so fans were chanting but many more were questioning the player’s capabilities and attitude. Some fans kicking advertising hoardings which started to become loose. At the ends many fans threw what was left of beer they had purchased from the van in the way end onto the pitch. There were numerous gesticulations. This was the most vituperative crowd in the history of Hereford FC. Far worse than the anger after the defeat at Brackley prior to Beadle’s sacking.

Whilst many of the fans were occasional travellers taking advantage of the relative proximity of Leamington on a Bank Holiday, there were several angry veterans seen on cold northern terraces in midwinter. Dozens of Bulls fans left after Leamington scored their second goal.

At the end Hereford’s players came over to thank the supporters but it was a difficult atmosphere. A few supporters applauded back. The majority of fans did not applaud nor provide negative comments, many seeking a quick exit and avoiding eye contact.

Klukowski showed admirable leadership. With about fifty fans continuing loud criticism with much swearing he walked towards them applauding them and looking them in the eye. The criticism continued and Yan kept clapping and meeting the gaze of the disgruntled. Several fans started to applaud him acknowledging his dignity.
