The Players Competed Said Klukowski

Hereford's interim manager Yan Klukowski was pleased with how his players performed last night against Southport.

"The competed, they did everything we didn't do against Farsley.

"The basics of the game, first contacts, second balls. There is a real togetherness if people make mistakes or slipped on a very difficult surface. We had people backing each other up. So testament to their attitude and application. Really, really pleased.

Jack Holmes was man of the match.

"He's a talent and if we can get him going  he's going to be a real threat in this league.

"The way he receives a ball, he can twist and turn in tight congested areas and he can get people off their seats.

"Hopefully he can get a run of games and get a few goals and keep building that confidence and building on that performance this evening."

Jarvis and Barnett, who both scored, came on as subs late in the game.

"They can only make a difference because of the boys that have worked before and the boys I took off.

"I thought the work rate phenominal and then you ask your substitutions to make an impact and Tyrone and Dan do that."

On the game itself.

"I thought the first half was important, they dominated a bit of territory and we had to dig in.

"As always it's difficult going up that slope here at Edgar Street so to do the basics well, be solid, gives you a foundation. And if you keep clean sheets you've always got an opportunity to win games with the attacking boys we've got in the squad.

"Back to back wins can potentially jump you four or five places so we'll be looking to do that Saturday.

"I've congratulated the boys, now the focus turns to Saturday.

"What a team effort it was. Everyone from the staff, to the players and the fans have contributed in a fantastic night for the club."

As regards injuried players Klukowski felt Saturday would be too soon for them.

"Lots of the boys will potentially return to training on Thursday.

"That's great for us as it's a real boost to morale to see these boys returning. We've had some big players out so we hope they will be back in and give us another injection of quality."

The formation was changed for the game.

"We had an extra body in midfield. Me and Josh discussed this on Saturday and the way we wanted it to work tonight with the players we had available.

"We picked a formation that we felt suited the players that we had in the building and we had really good flexibility with the players on the bench who could fill those roles as well.

"I think that's why the substitutes worked tonight, changed like for like but they bring different styles so I was pleased for the boys who made an impact."
