Earlier this afternoon Hereford FC revealed that manager Josh Gowling had left the club by 'mutual consent'.
But in these circumstances what does mutual consent really mean?
There's little doubt that Gowling will not have agreed to leave Hereford before his contract was up without some sort of payment.
After all he could have said no I'm not going until the end of my contract which was probably to the end of May.
So speculation that he has received a sum to go now is almost certainly correct.
How much that sum is may never be known. But a good guess may be £20K to £25K.
That figure would be for the four months remaining on his contract and perhaps an amount towards what he would have received in expenses.
With the benefit of hindsight the two year contact given to Gowling was too generous for a part-time club in the National North League. Why the board felt they needed to pay so much to an unproven manager is open to question. Especially one living so far away in Grimsby.
