Holmes's Goal Seals The Points For Hereford

Jack Holmes scored the only goal of the game at Southport this afternoon early in the second half.

Afterwards he spoke to the Hereford media. First he was asked how he enjoyed scoring the goal.

"A lot because I didn't play bad but an average performance for me so it was nice to get a goal to add to what was a little bit of an average performance by my standards.

"I'm happy that it's the goal that won us the game, got us the three points and got us over the line.

"You can tell at the minute that every man wants to fight for each other so if one isn't having a great game, others are picking him up.

"At the minute you can just see you have that one goal lead and the lads are doing everything to battle it out and see the three points when maybe in the past we haven't with maybe letting a goal in and only take a point or ended up losing the game. Everyone is ready to fight for each other.

"Today I thought the times we looked best was when we were playing our own game because there were times in the game when it was going long and we were putting it back long and we never got a foot on the ball really.

"When we looked the best was when we got it down and played it our own football. When we play like that I think teams can't really deal with us at all.

"Ryan offers us that in behind, just blistering pace and then I'm on the other side offering a bit more, trying to run in and out of people and create openings for the players. I think it's a nice balance with the two of us out there."

Holmes was asked about Yan Klukowski as interim manager.

"Yan has taken over and he's just doing a job for now. Everyone likes Yan, everyone gets on with Yan. All the lads want to do well for him and do the best we can whilst he's taken over the job.

"It's not easy for him doing the job he is, the least we can do is give it our all and I think it showed with the results we've had."

Holmes was asked to describe the winning goal.

"Out on the left edge of the box, I can't remember how many times I turned in and out, I think maybe three or four times before there was an opening for the goal.

"I just put it near post probably wrong footed the keeper a little bit.

"I was quite buzzing with it really."

You didn't over-celebrate?

"To be fair most of the lads were quite close to me so they just put arms around me straight away so I didn't really have time to celebrate.

"But inside I was buzzing and I was buzzing with all the lads around me."
