A huge thanks to Oliver Ash, the co-owner of Maidstone United. Yesterday, Oliver agreed to become the chair of Fair Game's Advisory Council. The Council meets quarterly and has representatives from all the main divisions in the English game. Its remit is to oversee the direction of travel of Fair Game.
We will shortly be undertaking a skills audit of our Board (the executive directors plus the chair, vice-chair and a third rep from the Advisory Council make up the Board), and will then look for three non-executive directors to ensure we have all the skills we need.
Meanwhile Fair Game has been watching developements at a number of clubs.
Southend UnitedThe local newspaper this week revealed that the players were not paid in January. But it gets worse, this Monday club chairman Ron Martin revealed in a crunch meeting with the squad that he had no idea when they will next get paid. Sheffield United At Sheffield United, it turns out their would-be owner Dozy Mmobuosi has a court judgment against him for failing to pay £30,109 in rent between April and December 2020. He has said he would pay up, but despite repeatedly requests he has failed to do so. Yet, apparently, he claims to have enough personal wealth to complete the £90m deal for the Blades. The EFL are not convinced and have a number of outstanding questions before he can pass the Owners and Directors Test. Though whether he should even have got this far remains moot.
