Kody Maude Played For Hereford
Hereford manager Josh Gowling spoke to the local media after his side were put out of the FA Trophy by Heybridge Swifts.
Their 3-0 victory was fully deserved but Gowling made the point that he was without twelve first team players for a variety of reasons including injury, suspension and illness.
He had spoken about the injuries in his squad on Thursday saying there were seven who could not play including Ryan McLean who is suspended.
In addition to the seven Gowling mentioned Callum Rowe who has a hamstring problem and Aaron Amadi-Holloway who has Covid.
"Two of the goals we gave them, giving the ball away in bad areas and the other from set-play," said Gowling.
"Disappointed obviously, putting a performance in and losing three nil was not great."
Whilst the pitch was plastic it appeared to play well. There had been some rain on it pre-kick-off.
And the referee, many thought, had a good game.
"I don't feel we dealt with their nine (Mark Jones) well. He was big and strong."
It had been hoped a victory this afternoon would start a series of win after a poor run of results recently.
"If you look at the squad we've got twelve players injured, eight or nine of those you would start.
"At the moment we are not coping with the games coming thick and fast. We're not training as we would like with the injuries.
"We've tried to bring in a full back to have a look at, we've got Mark (Derricott) playing, there's players out there that need a rest.
"Because of the injury situation we've got we just can't give players rest so we're patching people and they look tired.
"I think it's got to a point now where I think we've played 18 now, it's more than 18, this time last year we hadn't played 18 games until Boxing Day.
"So the reality is any squad in the country if they are losing twelve of their players with a small squad anyway will find it difficult, we are at the moment."
Keith Hall asked if Gowling had the resources from the Cup run to go and say we need to make changes.
"We are going to have to look at bringing some players in, we'll have a chat.
"Yes we've lost today but we're still fifth in the form table in the League. We are competitive.
"But yes we need help. We'll speak to the board, I'll speak to Jon (Hale - chairman) and we'll see what players we can bring in."
KH: "You can't say we are competitive when the results are going as they are at the moment with a diminished squad, you do need to get those changes in to give yourself a chance of being competitive."
"The problem is we get these injuries, Callum Rowe has done his hamstring after the game the other day and then Aaron Amadi-Holloway got Covid yesterday. Who could forsee that?
"We've played a game and Callum has done his hammy, he reported it yesterday and Aaron's got Covid. You can't forsee that.
"They were two players that we would have played today.
"Hopefully we'll get Jack (Evans) back soon.
"We're missing our captain, we missing (Ryan) Lloyd, we're missing Kane (Thompson-Sommers), we're missing Zak (Lilly), we're missing another keeper.
"So there are a lot of players we are missing.
"We're patching the side up as we are.
"The boys have been fantastic but we've hit a bit of a wall.
"So now we need to look at it and go, look, speak to the board, I'll have a chat and look at ways we can bring some players in to bolster the squad."
