Hereford's First Goal Was Scored By A Trialist |
Speaking after this afternoon's pre-season friendly at Malvern, Josh Gowling said that a couple of the trialists had caught his eye.
Two trialists scored in the first half, the first only a minute or so after kick-off.
"It was good to see some goals," said the Hereford manager.
"There's not been a lot lately have there."
Gowling felt that work on the training pitch had helped.
"A couple of the trialists really caught the eye today with some goals and some assists.
"Really pleasing as a whole.
"We didn't have Ty (Tyrone Barnett) today so we had a difference dimension up front.
"I thought Shola did well and then Miles went down the middle and got his goal second half.
"We want to play football, we want to get the ball down and play, and play attractive football and be high energy and high pressing."
After the Arsenal game Gowling felt some of the players didn't need much match time this afternoon.
"They were a bit sore in training the other day so we planned for this to be lesser minutes."
Most of the trialists had around 60 minutes to impress. And then the senior players came on and maybe they should have scored more goals.
"The lads will be disappointed, their centre half saved two on the line and their goalie one as well. We've got to be more clinical.
"At our level there will be less opportunities so we've got to make sure we are more clinical."
After the game Gowling revealed that Orrin Pendley had signed.
"I think we need competition in that area. Luke and Zak have been outstanding but we had only got two centre-halves at the club.
"Pendley talks, he organises, he'll wuffle a few feathers, that's what he's like and he likes to battle.
"He's a no-nonsense centre-half, probably one we've not had, Grimes was probably the last one we had.
"I'm not likeing him to Grimes, he's a different player but he's big, strong and physical and we want that in the squad."
