Hereford FC manager Josh Gowling is hopeful Krystian Pearce can play for the Bulls on Saturday at York but says it's out of the club's hands.
In an interview with Trevor Owens, Gowling explained the situation.
"Let's make it clear it's not our fault," said Gowling.
"I think some of the fans think we've made an admin error. We have done in the past, we know that.
"Basically there's been a dispute with Kristian, I can't go into too much detail with it, I know what the dispute is.
"For that reason the FA are not releasing him to play for us. So until they've resolved that, then he will be available. Hopefully it will be resolved pretty sharpish.
"It's nothing to do with us whatsoever.
"So basically what happened was the things that are going on with Krystian have been going on for a while.
"I'm been in constant dialogue with Krystian the whole time. Now that's his personal business but someone like Krystian we can't not get him because of what he'll bring to the team.
"We're aware it might take a bit of time with what's going on.
"Obviously we were advised by people that it would be done last week but for what ever reason someone dragging their heels somewhere and we're trying to get it sorted.
"We'll have to wait and see but we're hoping that he'll be ready for Saturday."
