Hereford assistant manager Steve Burr spoke to the media after last night's friendly at a very wet Hednesford whilst anager Josh Gowling was in the dressing room speaking to players. Maybe to a couple of them about contracts?
"It was a good performance," said Burr.
"We had talked before the game about showing why we are at the level we are. Hednesford are a league below so it was good to get a good performance under our belt and get a few goals tonight. I thought the performance was excellent.
"The pitch is in excellent condition so for the pre-season tonight it's been a great workout for our boys."
Joey Butling scored twice.
"As a forward I had a chat with Joey, Toe and Ryan, as forwards whether you are playing in league games or friendlies you need to score goals. So it was nice to see Joey get a couple tonight, could have had a few more, and Ryan again was very unlucky. He got his one goal which he deserved but it's important that strikers at any club you want to be not just top scorer at your club, you want to be top scorer and leading goal-scorer in the league.
"It breeds confidence as well scoring goals. As a striker that's what the job is.
"It was a real good performance and I thought we were a cut above Hednesford tonight. We knew it would be a tough game but it just nice to get a good performance in.
"To be fair the first ten/fifteen minutes of the game Hednesford came at us and we took a bit of organising. But once we got into our stride I think it was quite clear to see that we were deserved winners.
"There's still over a week to go before we start the season but winning games and playing well breeds confidence.
"At this stage the players want to play 90 minutes and where we are at at the moment we've got to be mindful of injuries and stuff like that.
"We're still missing Miles and Vinny (both watched the game from the stands) and we're still looking to add to the squad as we're nowhere near the strength we want to be at. So we're still looking and trying to add to the squad."
Asked how close the club were to getting Storey and Vincent playing again Burr seems frustrated.
"It just seems to be one step forward and then a few back. I don't know to be honest it's very frustrating and frustrating for the players who have come tonight and they want to play football.
"At the moment we are waiting for clearance for the two lads and that needs to be done before the start of the season.
"We feel that Vinny and Miles will play a big part for us this season."
As regards more signings nothing as yet.
"We were hoping we had a lad lined up to come in tonight but no show, I don't know what happened. It's one of those, a bit frustrating, I only spoke to him yesterday about coming in and playing but he didn't turn up. Whether he's been contacted and got somewhere else I don't know but I'll probably find out more tomorrow.
"I keep hearing people say there will be a lot of players available and you'll get them for the right kind of money. It doesn't seem to be the case. It's gone the other way again but we'll keep working at it because we do need to strengthen, there's no question about that.
"What we don't want to do is just bring in somebody for the sake of it.
"We've spoken to numberous players and at the end of the day they've gone elsewhere for more money than we can offer. But it is what it is so we'll get on with what we can afford and hopefully by the time we play Farsley the squad will be in place.
"It might be after the Farsley game but we hoping not but that might be the case."
Lastly Burr clarified the situation about Like Haines who was given a red card in the friendly against Cheltenham.
"He got a one game suspension which was a bit annoying but the rules are the rules and the referee deemed a red card. It was unfortunate really."
