Top of the National North League Gloucester City want to continue playing no doubt with the hope they can gain promotion.
Co-chairman Alex Petheram has proposed a way of continuing towards that aim.
“With the current club voting taking place across the pyramid, the
final result appears to be very close, looking at how clubs have
publicly declared they have voted," said Petheram.
"In the South especially, it is very clear that clubs want to play football.
“I’m still very keen to find a resolution that isn’t as final as making clubs play if they don’t want to - the reasons for which I fully understand and accept - and stopping clubs that want to play football.
“I understand why some clubs aren’t prepared to, or can’t, work with Sport England on a grant, loan or blended solution.
“On the other hand, clubs like ourselves don’t want to stop playing - and in my opinion waste taxpayers’ money via the furlough scheme.
“I hope some sort of solution can be found that allows clubs to stop if they have voted to do so, or to play on.
“For example, a promotion-only mini-league - two mini-leagues, with finals to allow teams to gain promotion.
“The finals can be played at Gloucester, free of charge to the league or clubs as we are in the middle of the country and yo-yo between the North and South.
“I feel that clubs in the North especially felt this vote would be a landslide and it appears that hasn’t happened.
“So surely this is another potential resolution that saves taxpayers’ money and allows a way to maintain promotion and relegation between the National League and the North/South and maybe more importantly looks after all the member clubs.
“Of course some will say this is clubs looking after themselves - that’s obvious, that’s what everyone is doing, every club is only trying to look out for themselves.
“There’s more than just one agenda - the clubs wanting to stop the league have been very vocal with their statements, acting as a pack.
“This is just one club, a small one at that, trying to play football.
“I owe this to our fans and players at the very least. We’ve been top of the table pretty much all season to date and we want to play and be allowed to dream."
