Massive Budget 'Not Factually Correct' Said Gloucester Manager

National North League Gloucester City make the short trip to Edgar Street tomorrow evening.

City, who are currently top of the table, have recruited a number of quality players and questions have been asked about their budget.

James Rowe became manager a year ago. Already he has seen the club return to its Meadow Park base and made progress to going full-time.

“The board have supported me with the signings required, but the budget isn’t what we thought it’d be due to Covid and I am sure that’s the same for most clubs,” Rowe said as reported by GloucestershireLive.

“Those restraints are there, but I have read plenty of stuff saying we have a massive budget and that’s just not factually accurate."

Rowe was assistant manager at Aldershot before moving to Gloucester. Previously he had worked at the West Ham academy

“People will say we have signed big players, but most of that has been down to my relationships with them, which has made them want to come here.”

Like his counterpart at Hereford, Josh Gowling, Rowe has moved training to the mornings.

"We are in on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and that obviously gives you the chance to implement more ideas and work on things.

“But it also means I’ve been able to sign professional players and they are showing their worth now.

“There has been a lot of change management, including 19 players and new staff, but we are starting to reap the rewards.”
