A screamer from a trialist at the death saw Hereford dramatically beat higher-graded Solihull Moors 1-0 in today's behind-closed-doors friendly.
The midfielder let fly from about 35 yards out to ensure the Bulls picked up only their second win in pre-season.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, Hereford had trialist goalkeeper Rhys Lovett to thank after he denied Adam Rooney after Solihull were awarded a penalty.
Due to coronavirus regulations, Hereford were only allowed to name a 20-man squad. There were a total of seven trialists in total, with four of them starting.
Toby Raison started at the back after signing pro forms in the week, while Dan Jones returned following injury. Giles Coke - who signed this week after being on trial - also started, while Ben Pollock started his first game in pre-season following injury.
Jake Wright and Chris Camwell, two further signings, were on the bench.
Hereford started brightly and saw both Coke and Jared Hodgkiss have efforts on goal. Solihull also had chances through Callum Howe and Rooney before Lenell John-Lewis headed wide.
Rooney remained a constant threat for Solihull, but Hereford remained firm and fans will be encouraged that the Bulls also created chances themselves.
With 20 minutes to go, Lovett had to be alert to deny Rooney before he crashed an effort against the crossbar. Just a minute later, Solihull were awarded a penalty after Lovett brought down Joe Sbarra. But the trialist Hereford keeper redeemed himself by denying Rooney and saving the rebound.
The Bulls keeper made another important save to deny Jake Beesley and it was then left to the trialist midfielder to win it for Hereford with a stunning goal.
