Very Entertaining Game For The Fans Said Gowling

Hereford FC interim manager Josh Gowling said that yesterday's 2-2 draw against Darlington was a 'very entertaining game for the fans'.

Conditions were difficult because of gusty winds but the surface was excellent given the rainfall this month. All credit to Ben Bowen and his team.

"Disappointed with the result at the end because I felt we were the best team", said Gowling.

"But at the end of the day it's another point.

"We seemed to be on top in games and then go a goal behind and then having to fight back so that's something we need to address. When we're on top, getting that first goal.

"The team spirit is excellent, we're building together and it shows up out there on the pitch."

Did you think when Hodgkiss scored Hereford's second goal it was job done?

"I spoke to the lads afterwards, I was a bit corned because we dropped deep straight away. I just think sometimes when confidence has been a bit low and you've not been getting results naturally you try to hang on to what you've got and I think we sat off a bit deep and that caused us the issue and they got the equaliser.

"To be fair the crowd were great, I think they were screamimg so I'll blame them because they lads couldn't here my voice.

"At the end of the day it is what it is, we are down there, we haven't been getting results, again you just want to hold on to it don't you, credit to the lads they just wanted to keep it shored up but unfortunately we didn't get it but it's a real positive step."

Was the second Darlington goal offside?

"Styche got one ruled off earlier in the season and I've looked at the play. Jevan (Anderson) has had to run around him to try and get to the ball so technically he interferred with play so he is offside.

"I understand the officials have got hard decisions but I think that was offside."

Was there a handball earlier in the game was Louis Laing was on the floor?

"Liburd has gone around him, he's put his arm down and the ball has hit his arm. The referee was in a great position. To me it's handball, we don't get it, we're not going to complain about it but their goalie has pulled off two unbelievable saves really in the game.

"I think back end of the first half I think we sat off a little bit in mid-field areas but overall I thought we showed a great account of ourselves and the crowd were amazing, that noise when we scored the second. It's not been like that for a while here and it was really nice to hear and gave the lads a boost."

Any targets?

"We've set them already within the group. We've looked at the points talley that we want, we've looked at wins we want, draws we want and obviously losses and we've got to reach those targets so there is a lot more to come.

"I've been in about a month and the lads have taken on a lot of information in a short period of time. We've got a lot still to build, we've got a lot more to go, the lads have got a lot more confidence to come. We played well today but we could be better."

Altrincham at Edgar Street next week.

"I played in that game away from home and they gave us a bit of the run around to be honest. We are a different team now, we've got a different mentality now and we'll give it a right go next home game."

Then four away games.

"Obviously games get called off. It is what it is.Bring on the games that's how we feel, we're relishing every opportunity we've got and every obstacle we've got we'll climb over them."

New signing Demetri Brown didn't play today.

"It's a few things. We wanted to introduce him to the lads and to our philosophy and what we are trying to build so we didn't want to just throw him in as he hasn't been with us too long. We would like him to train a little bit more. I think he had a little knock when he came over, his ankle is a bit sore. We just to get him 100% and give him the best opportunity to flourish at the football club.

"He's got a good goal-scoring record. It's a big step but at the end of the day when we came in and we sat down and had a good chat with him, I like interviewing all the players before they come through the door.

"One thing you could see in his eyes is the hunger and the burning desire to do well. He doesn't want to be here for ever. He wants to either be here and us move up or him move on to a higher level. And that's something that really attracted me.

"When we sat down and spoke, he never spoke about money. He spoke about his desire to come here and prove that he can be at this level and then kick-on again. And that's the kind of players we want at this football club."

Ben Pollock will be available after suspension for Saturday's game. Any other problems?

"Ben is back but Jordan has two more games out. Finn is on the concussion  protocol which we have to stick to, so he's not far off. But there have been some issues with Danny's grion so he's going to see a specialist so we'll wait and see on those results."
