Cup Win Was Very Hard Work Said Gowling

Hereford FC captain Josh Gowling admitted that today's 5-2 FA Cup victory over Truro was 'very hard work'.

"The first half, I don't think we really came out and we caused our own problems," Gowling told the local media.

"We gifted them two goals and so we had it all to do really.

"The Gaffer let us know at half-time and we put a better performance in the second half."

The Bulls started the game very slowly.

"I don't thing we were anxious, we had a game plan and we just didn't really implement it well.

"We got the ball in some good areas, some good pockets but our final pass I don't think we executed it very well.

"We went into the changing rooms, re-set ourselves mentally and then we went back out there and implemented it a lot better."

Truro were two goals ahead after 16 minutes.

"When you're two goals down like that you just think it's going to be a long day.

"But the boys are resiliant, we always knew we were still in the game, we just needed to get that goal.

"We've got to do better with those two goals, it's not acceptable.

"I think it was just one of them, we've had a couple of those this season, we really need to cut it out, we've just got to be better, a bit more confident on the ball, that's the main thing."

At half time Manager Russell Slade told the players to go a bit more direct.

"You have to earn the right to play and I don't think in the first half we earned the right to play.

"Gaffer spoke to us and said start doing the fundamentals better, get the ball forward, hold up the ball and get up behind the ball.

"They started well and we just didn't get going, I think that was the big thing. But the team stuck together, there were a few words between ourselves at half-time, but we always believed we would win the game.

"And we went out and did that."

Hereford were awarded two penalties during the game. One in the first half for hand ball and one late in the second half when Liburd was brought down whilst about to score.

"Jordan's, you've seen them given, you've seen them not, so today we were fortunate."

Reece Styche took the first and Peter Vincenti the second.

"That's what we're about, raising people's profiles, raising people's confidence and he wanted to take it and we said let him take it.

"It's his first game so scoring a goal will give him a big boost. He was a big part of the second half.

"He gives us something different. He really did have an impact and stepping up to take the penalty, new club, new stadium, just shows what confidence he has got."
