Chorley And Stockport Win Awards

Chorley FC has been named as best away day experience in step two of non-league football by the Football Supporters Federation.

The award is an extension of the organisation’s annual ‘Away Fans Matter Campaign’, which encourages clubs to make travelling supporters more welcome.

"We can’t thank the FSF enough for this award as it just goes to show how much work and dedication everyone puts in on Victory Park match days," said Chorley Chief Steward Mark Norris.

"We welcome away fans with open arms and we’re looking forward to having a whole new set of visiting supporters coming to enjoy what Chorley FC has to offer next season in the National League."

BN's match reporter at Chorley when Hereford were the visitors last August was quite impressed with the club.

'As a venue for visiting supporters Chorley was friendly and unsegregated. The ground is in a bit of a time warp, doesn’t appear to have been updated for decades, and the gents toilet required snorkel and flippers for a visit. On the plus side the pork and black pudding pies in the bar were ‘interesting’ (you’d think I’d be used to northern delicacies after 10 years in Lancashire), and the chips were excellent.'
Meanwhile Stockport County have won the NLP fair-play award for the second season in a row.

The Hatters, who have just been promoted to the National League, received the award for having a clean record for dissent and foul and abusive language across Steps 1-4 and the overall best disciplinary record amongst the 296 clubs.
