A few more details have emerged about Rob Purdie's testimonial on May 12th.
Taking account the fact that the above match will be HUFC v HFC, the club are discussing the possibility of segregation. Those supporting HUFC would be accommodated in the Len Weston Stand and Terrace, and those supporting HFC would be accommodated in the Merton Stand. Neutrals would be accommodated in the Meadow End.
Before the match HUFC fans will be encouraged to sing "Hereford United we all love you" and HFC fans will be encouraged to sing "Hereford forever United we love you." The match sponsors will then decide which is the best version and the winners will play towards the Meadow End in the second half. This will replace the pre match toss.
It has also been decided that there will be a HUST vote on which team will play in "home colours" and fans will then be asked to lend the club their old HUFC shirts, for the players to wear. It is thought that season 11/12 shirts will be asked for it was last Football League season. Assuming enough shirts can be found, players will sign the shirts after the game before returning them back to the fans that loaned them. If not enough shirts can be found then HFC shirts will be worn instead.
Scarves with Hereford United on the one end and Hereford FC on the other will be on sale at £8, or £10 if director George Webb gets his way.
The idea of half and half shirts however has been ruled out, due to the potential problem of trying to fit the names of HUFC and HFC sponsors on the shirts.
Finally Andy Woolmer is set to referee the game. However he will not be at the game as he doesn't want to leave his car anywhere in Herefordshire.
So in a first for football in the UK, a drone will fly over Edgar Street and send back instant pictures to his 'studio' from where he will send his 'decisions' back to PA annoucer Matt Healey who will relay them to James Watts (MC Wotsee) on his cherry picker platform above the centre circle.
It promises to be a fun day.
