Parts Still Nowhere Near Good Enough Said Richards After His First Win

Marc Richards says there is still plenty to work on as there's plenty of parts of the game that aren't good enough after his side beat FC United of Manchester 3-1 this afternoon for his first win in charge.

Hereford were one-nil down at the break after some poor defending saw Jack Banister take the lead with 15 minutes on the clock.

"We were sloppy, just look at the first half and it's just typical of where we've been," Richards said.

"There are still so many parts of the game that are nowhere near good enough. We're not just going to win and everything's fine, there's still loads and loads of stuff that we've got to work on.

"We're going to need to add more players to the squad to ensure we keep going in the right direction, but it does take time. I know the frustrations have been there, you could hear a bit today in the first half.

"We've all got to stick together and try and push forward together as one. Hopefully we can turn this corner and start getting more wins on the board.

Despite the areas that need improvement, it was Richards' first win since taking over at Hereford at the beginning of October.

"It's great to get a win on the board, it's just a pity it's not the three points being an FA Trophy game," Richards added.

"That illusive win is the monkey on your back that you want to get off. The boys have pulled through in the second half and put it a good second half performance.

"Credit to the lads, there's a lot of new faces that have come in and it does take time. Hopefully it can just be the catalyst that can kickstart the season really."

Like he said last week, Richards is still on the lookout for new faces to add to the squad and says there could be another two next week.

"Hopefully, potentially a couple of signings next week. We've been working hard in the background, Tim especially.

"Hopefully we can get a couple over the line next week."

Mike Symons scored Hereford's third goal today in what was one of his best performances, according the Head Coach.

Richards added: "You play to his strengths and it's there for everybody to see. You play to his strengths and he's very, very effective.

"It's probably one of the best performances I've seen him play and I've known him since he was 18. He's just matured so much and he does give you such a different dimension in terms of an out-ball and that physicality we've been lacking.

"He allows other players to be in better positions to show what they can do. I thought Tom Owen-Evans was excellent, I thought Kyle Finn put in a great performance and George Lloyd didn't stop working. Matt Yates was excellent in goal, kept us in it in the first half.

"Some really good performances out there, Jordan (Cullinane-Liburd) at the back as well."
