Jamie Edge At Aldershot In 2014 |
Recently installed as manager of Gloucester City, Chris Todd has said that it's never easy to release a player.
He was speaking after he told former Hereford player Jamie Edge by phone on a Sunday morning that he had been released.
Edge was very unhappy.
"To be released via a phone call on a Sunday morning after all the hard
work I have put in for the football club is something that I find an
absolute disgrace," said Edge.
Gloucester haven't won a league game since September 1st.
"We are in a relegation battle at this minute. We need to change that, we need results and sometimes you need new personnel," said Todd as reported by GloucesterLive.
“I do feel for the lad but I’ve been released many times on the phone and I was a professional footballer.
“I get the fact he would have liked me to have met him and since I’ve spoken to him I’ve said I’m more than happy to meet up with him and have a chat and say why I’ve released him but I had to do it then.
“If you keep someone on after the Sunday you have to pay them for the following week so it’s about money as well, which you have to take into consideration.
“He’s a nice lad, I get all that, but sometimes you have to do things that are not nice to change things.”
