Marc Richards' first game as Hereford's Head Coach saw his side knocked out of the FA Cup with a 2-0 defeat against Welling - and Richards admitted he has a lot of work to do.
It was a difficult game for Richards, his game plan was scuppered after 28 minutes as he was forced into making three changes due to injury.
Mike McGrath and Martin Horsell ended up in A&E after colliding trying to defend the first goal, prior to that Lewis Hall had picked up a knock.
"We've got a lot of work to do, that's what I've taken out of that," Richards said.
"We've been brought in to do a job and take this club where it wants to be and we know that's going to take a little bit of time. We know we need to sort things out and sort them out pretty quickly.
"There were glimpses there which were pleasing but overall we weren't good enough.
"In terms of the game plan, it's not nice having to make three substitutions in the first 25 minutes in your first game in charge.
The most important thing here is making sure that Macca and Horse are okay, that's probably the first thing I'm concerned about now is finding out how those two are.
"Obviously having to make all three substitutions in the first 25 minutes isn't ideal, and I thought to be fair Brandon did ever so well coming on, but we've got some work to do."
There were eight minutes added time at the end of the first half after an injury in Hereford's box between Mike McGrath and Martin Horsell. The pair went to hospital for treatment.
It was a baptism of fire for youth team keeper Brandon Powell who came on for Horsell, but Richards was pleased with how he performed.
"We've just gone in and watched both goals back, but we're just trying to find out what happened," Richards added.
"Martin came out, went to punch, missed, the lads gone in and headed it and he's gone head-to-head with Mike.
Hence Mike has got a nasty gash on the side of his head, obviously anything with your neck or spine you've got to be careful, so everyone here reacted really well and both are at A&E now."
Welling were a well-orgnasied side, but Hereford lacked heart and energy said the Head Coach.
"They're very well organised and they've got some very good players and we knew it was going to be a tough, tough game.
"We had to be really on it today to get something out of it, we were confident we could, but unfortunately with what happened in the first 25 minutes scuppered the game plan.
"We didn't show enough heart or energy especially in the last 20/25 minutes, very disappointed. It's not how I want my teams to play, it's not how Tim wants his teams to play so we'll be doing something about that."
"I looked at the lads when second goal went in and I think that really killed us off. You can see that in the noise levels in the stadium, and also the performance levels of the boys.
They've got to be brave, be courageous, get on the ball and take the game to the opposition and I didn't see that.
"We need to ensure we've got the right characters as well as the right players in the team."
