Fans Forum: What We Learned From Part One

Q: Decision on management?

Tim Harris: Nearly 80 applicants, from Championship managers to Playstation managers. A lot of people out there who'd like to be involved in the club. Need to survey all applications and look at the best fit.
Candidates have been interviewed, one more to be interviewed and it's important to make the right decision to take the club forward.

Q: Concession pricing is high?

George Webb: Three years ago we looked at where we wanted to go. We needed to be sustainable and ensure the fanbase supported the club. Made a decision at the time to build the next generation of fans.
We charge Under-16s a pound to encourage them and their families to come. We made a conscious decision that it's about the next generation of fans rightly or wrongly. Best selling shirts three years ago 3-5XL, now they're x-small, small and medium.
To have a competitive playing budget the club can't give concession prices to OAPs and U16s. Going forward this will remain the same.

Q: Beadle said in an interview that the club needed 3,000 to go full time. Update on this?

Peter Churchus: Can't afford to go full time now. Aim is to go full time as soon as possible but need the finances to do so.
Tim Harris: I went back to Newport and they were in the Conference South. They felt they needed to go full time. It's fair to say that they didn't do very well and they go it wrong.
They tried to do it in a bit-part way but times have changed drastically from 2008.
It's easier now than it was back then, but some full-time and some part-time doesn't work. Kids in academies that get released and ones that come on loan mean it's easier now. Sooner rather than later.

Q: Why sack Beadle when you did when you'd already thought about a different direction? Wasted the first few weeks of the season.

Mick Merrick: No good time to sack a manager. We arrived at that point after looking at our objectives for the club and its ambition.
Became clear over a period of time that the structure wasn't going to be achieved with Beadle as manager. The board understand it was a great shock to fans.
Point of earlier statement that it wasn't a knee-jerk reaction. Nothing to do with poor start to the season.
Player budget increased and manager given greater control over what he could spend it on. No financial impediment on re-signing players. Not a knee-jerk reaction, part of a strategy. Football budget will not be changed regardless of management changes.

Q: Who's the panel the board have been talking with with regards to management changes?

George Webb: Back at the start of HFC, club consulted other clubs because they don't have experience. Best thing to do was talk to other peopler about their experiences.
They did their homework, right from the top to the bottom of the game. A wide range of people involved with football and their experiences. Can't name them as they were confidential discussion. Board have always taken advice.
Everything has to have a plan and a strategy. Without one, you won't get anywhere. To have a plan you need to talk people because the board aren't football people. There's been a lot of pain-staking hours travelling the country finding things out.

Q: Why did players use their cars to go to Brackley? Why not a team coach?

Paul Quarrell: Coach budget allocated is £30,000 which included overnight stays. Beadle decided overnight stays. Coach leaves Gloucester, some longer trips require two drivers. Pick up at Droitwich.
Negotiations pre-season saw £10,000 saved and put into the playing budget as well as the 50% increase.
Tim Harris: Players coach is an extension of dressing room and is needed. When you're part time and going on journeys, management have the opportunity to sit down and talk to players about everything.
It's not right in a professional environment that fans and directors on coach.
Paul Quarrell: Beadle's decision not to use a coach to Brackley. He wanted the extra money in the budget. Players travel was by agreement.

Q: Kitman Roger Lloyd retired on Saturday. Has he been replaced?

Mick Merrick: Jonny Evans (physio) has agreed to extend his hours and do the kit for the next few weeks. After that, discussion will take place with management to identify his successor.
