Beadle On County Cup Defeat

Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle spoke to the HT and BN after his side were knocked out of the HFA Cup by Westfields.

"They deserved to win the game," said Beadle.

"I don't think you can afford to give away two goals like we did and expect to win a game, simple as that.

"First two goals were awful on our part. I thought their third goal was a very good goal.

"You can't give yourself a two goal deficit and expect to pull it back all the time especially in a local derby.

"We didn't do enough and they've been told so.

"Fortunately for us there are no points involved but it's another competition we're out of and another defeat as well which isn't nice but we've got to roll our sleeves up and get on with it."

Keeper Joslain Mayebi made his debut for the Bulls but didn't have the best of starts.

"He kicked it out to someone who wasn't expecting it and Calvin turned away from it.

"It was one of those timing things. Calvin went back to get it, got dispossessed and the lad finished it.

"Second goal he gone almost outside of his box and he's had to let go of the ball and that caused him a problem as well.

"We were weak, we have been for a couple of weeks or so and we've got to put it right."

Ian Morris for the HT then asked Beadle if he would like to make more signings.

"I think it's easy when things don't go well to go straight to the obvious and try to bring players in but it's not easy. We've found it very hard for four years to bring players in.

"We want to make the squad better, we are always trying to do that, but we are out on a limb a little bit and we have got to make sure we get the right players."

Was there any more pressure in the job now you're in Conference North?

"No it's not about that. There's a sense of reality of where we are right now as a football club. But like I said this is the first time in four seasons we are in a bit of poor form.

"There's no magic formula, the players are the same players that won against Blyth on the opening day. But for whatever reason we lost a bit of form and it's never easy to put your finger on that.

"It's not by changing personnel, it's about hard work and sticking together as a group."

Beadle said that he had put out a strong side but then admitted form was currently poor.

"In the last five games we've had one draw and four defeats.

"I have faith in the players in the changing room and when they do hit form and come good they'll start winning games again.

"We have been punished in some of the games, 92 minute at Chorley, the decisions on Saturday that went against us. They were harsh. And tonight we've gifted them two goals."

Did you appeal against Eliot Richard's red card last Saturday?

"Both were rejected today.

"We looked at it from Saturday and on another day it could have gone the other way. They could have had their center-forward sent off for elbowing Ryan and they could have had their center-half for a fore-arm smash on Harry's back of the head which is what the referee gave a free-kick for in the first place.

"It could have gone the other way. That's just how fine a line it is. But instead we found ourselves 1-0 down and then down to ten men.

"We are being crucified a little bit at the moment but most of the time you make your own luck. But we need everybody together."

Several supporters could be heard giving Beadle 'suggestions' during the game.

"I know supporters get frustrated and I understand that but we need them to get behind the players and behind the team."

BN asked Beadle whether he might have any new players signed by Saturday.

"We are just waiting for a few things to drop. If they do we'll get going.

"We are disrupted a bit with the injuries and it's not been a settled group certainly at the front end of the pitch but there's no magic formula, we've just go to get out there and hopefully get out of this little rut and start putting some points back on the board."

Finally BN asked whether it was time to consider going 4-4-2.

"When you look at the players we've got 4-3-3 probably suits us a bit better. But we look at all aspects of every game and whilst our favoured one at the moment is 4-3-3. Sometimes when games come along we do look to change but it was 4-3-3 when we beat Blyth, when we beat Curzon so the system works.

"But at the moment we have a group suffering a bit of confidence loss and when you have decisions like Saturday and incidents like tonight when with goals given away it saps that energy and confidence even more and that's why we need the supporters more than ever to help drag them out of that slump."
