Bird Wants More Game Time But Needs To Earn His Place

Hereford midfielder Jamie Bird says he would like more game time after he came off the bench to net the winner in Tuesday night's 2-1 win over Leamington.

20-year-old Bird has impressed fans so far this season, having set up the winning goal at Curzon Ashton on Saturday and then scored the winner against Leamington.

"I would've liked a bit more game time but it is what it is," Bird said.

"I was impressed [with the crowd reaction] but it was nice to get that goal for the boys, get the victory and keep the momentum going.

"All the boys are bouncing, but we've just got to keep building on it and building on it and keep that momentum going for as long as we can."

Fans have been calling for Bird to start, and the former Cardiff City youngster says he's just got to keep impressing Pete Beadle when he comes off the bench.

"That's all I can keep doing when he gives me the chance. Even if it's ten minutes, 15 minute, every time just come on and make an impact," added Bird.

"I thought I've done that the last two games so hopefully that goes a long way with the gaffer."

Pete Beadle said he was delighted with Bird's goal, but he's got to earn his place in the starting line up just like everyone else.

"I'm delighted for Jamie, he came on on Saturday and set up the winner and then tonight he scored it," said Beadle.

"It's a learning curved for him to, he's chipping away bit by bit and he's getting close. But he's still got some work to do. He's a real talent, but it's about doing the other side of the game as well which he's learning.

"He's getting there, but he's certainly undoubtedly got some fantastic ability and his strike tonight was absolutely fantastic.

"He's got to earn the right to start, as they all have, and at the moment there's a few on the bench because that's where they've been put. They've got to come on and earn their place in the team.

"When they get their chance they've got to try and keep it. He's still got some work to do yet, but he's a talent, there's no doubt about that."
