Hereford's Most Prolific Striker Ever Is John Mills

John Mills scored is 40th goal of the season during the game against Lads Club on Monday

Following on from yesterday’s article about Peter Beadle being Hereford’s top manager ever, Club Historian Ron Parrott has compiled a list of Hereford’s top strikers since the war.

Ron comments: "The players who have scored the most goals for the club may not necessarily prove to be the most prolific goalscorers and in my opinion, the only way is to judge them by their strike rate i.e. the percentage of goals scored divided by the number of games played. It makes very interesting reading."

"This table demonstrates just how good a striker John Mills is and Mike Symons likewise doing exceptionally well to finish in 17th position. John Mills’ strike rate of very nearly 90% is phenomenal and after praising Peter Beadle’s achievements yesterday and pointing out that he can only beat the opposition that’s placed before him, I would urge him to apply the same criteria when deciding on our strikers for next season.

"If the next level up proves too much for Mills and Symons then fair enough, but In my opinion both him and Symo have earned the right to display their wares in the National League North and I sincerely hope to see them both there next season."

Ron also points out that this table has some surprising omissions but if anyone would like to know how their particular favourite striker got on, Ron is quite happy to provide the relevant details, just drop him an email at ron.parrott69@btinternet.com.
