Preview: Bishop’s Stortford vs Hereford

Mark Jones previews the game:

My Fair Lady may have had it that in Hertford, Hereford, and Hampshire hurricanes hardly ever happen, but with the Hitchin game postponed twice in a week, Hertfordshire seems to be a bit of a no-go area weather-wise, or indeed football-fixture-wise. However, Hereford FC try again today to actually play a football match in the county, this time against Bishops Stortford.

The Bulls travel without Ryan Green, who starts a three-match suspension, but otherwise boss Peter Beadle has a full-strength squad from which to find a winning formula, with the prospect of three more points edging the club ever closer to a third successive promotion since its resurrection. If any added incentive is needed, a win would take the club past 100 points for the season, to go with the 100 goals already scored, but that sort of thing may be more for the maths nutters on the sidelines.

The hosts easily beat Farnborough 5-0 in midweek, with Jamie Cureton scoring a brace against his former club (although to be fair there aren't many clubs in the country left for Jamie to score either for or against), and the veteran striker is still quite capable of being a menace, particularly as the Bulls will be lacking Ryan Green's game management at the back. However, prior to that the Blues had lost two and drawn two, although one of those draws was a creditable one against Slough.

Given the travails this week in failing to get the Hitchin game on, it's to be assumed that the Stortford pitch is going to be heavy, but the visitors are so admirably bouyant as the season reaches its climax that conditions shouldn't be a leveller. Hereford must go into the match as long odds-on favourites.

With second-placed Kings Lynn travelling to Slough, there's the potential, if all goes well, for the Bulls to push further clear for the second Saturday in a row on their quest towards automatic promotion.

Here's hoping!
