Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle has told the Hereford Times that he did not make an approach for Ashley Carter last Sunday as reported in the Bromsgrove Advertiser.
Beadle admitted he did approach Alvechurch about the player last August.
But last Sunday he rang him by mistake when he was trying to speak to Ashley Thomas, the Merthyr coach, about getting tickets to watch Merthyr play Dunstable tomorrow evening.
"We've got Dunstable on Saturday and they've got Merthyr tomorrow night.
"We couldn't get hold of Gav [Williams] or Dean [Clarke] so I tried their first team coach to see if we could pick up two tickets for the match.
"I realised I rung the wrong number so put the phone down.
"Ian rung me straight away and I explained it to him and that was the end of it."
The HT has also reported that John Mills is set to have a scan tomorrow.
Update 10.30pm: The Alvechurch chairman Richard Thorndike has tweeted:
‘Beads’ has given his reasons for the misplaced call and we’ve accepted them. A line has been drawn under it as far as we’re concerned. Time for both of us to get on with our respective targets for the season.
Which begs the question why did Ian Long go to the press in the first place?
