"Rooster Russell"

Former Hereford United loan signing Kevin "Rooster" Russell is due to take caretaker charge of Stoke City Monday night as they make the trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.

Russell had a loan spell at Edgar Street from Leicester City during the 1991-1992 season and made his debut against Rochdale ( footage below). This was the season that John Sillett returned as manager.

The following week Hereford lost 1-0 at Carlisle, but Russell along with Nigel Vaughan were on the scoresheet as a nine man Hereford lost 4-2 at Crewe Alexandra. (footage below)

Russell was also in the starting eleven as Hereford were humiliated in a 2-1 home defeat to Maesteg Park in the Welsh Cup. When his month's loan expired the "Rooster" then returned to Filbert Street, and helped the Foxes reach the play off final where they were beaten by Blackburn Rovers who won promotion to the inaugural Premier League.

The Hereford United connections continue at the Britannia Stadium with former shot stopper Andy Quy being the goalkeeping coach at Stoke City.
