Peter Beadle Chatting To Redditch Manager Tim Harris |
Many Hereford supporters were disappointed with the draw at Merthyr on Boxing Day. Some even felt they were watching a different team yesterday against Redditch as the performance was much better.
Manager Peter Beadle gave his view after yesterday's game.
"I think that Merthyr had been building up to the game on Boxing Day for six weeks and there were a lot of players that played in that game that hadn't played in previous games, they had been rested and saved because it was all about this game on Boxing Day for them.
"I think what they've done is a brilliant thing with them playing for nothing at the moment but I don't think too many of them would perform at that level week in week out.
"And that is the difference, we have to play like that week in week out.
"These are the questions we talked about in the Midland League and last season in the South and West.
"We are the one they want to beat so they up their game a little bit. On the day Merthyr certainly wanted it more than we did, that's the way it looked to me which was disappointing but we managed to show enough character to hold on.
"But it wasn't purely about them wanting it more, I think you have to remember we've been on a horrific run of games for a short period of times. A lot of really tough games, Merthyr was our third game away on the bounce. Kettering, Chesham then Merthyr.
"And we've got to go and do it again this month. Nine games in January and two of them are at home. Four mid-week away games. It's going to be a tough month in January.
"We've got to ensure we maintain our standards and on Boxing Day we dropped a bit below that and the performance wasn't quite right."
So why did the side look so different even in the first ten minutes?
"If I knew the answer to that I would probably be managing much higher than I am now.
"Managers, all we can do is prepare, organise, recruit players, give them a style and a foundation of the way we want to play. Then it's up to those players to perform every week.
"We talk about it all the time about players and results.
"It's all based on results but I know with the group I've got if the performance is right, eight times out of ten the result will take care of itself.
"We didn't do that on Boxing Day and Merthyr were brilliant on the day so we did well to get a point out of the game."
