A Real Stand Out Performance Said Beadle

Hereford manager Peter Beadle was pleased with the both the performance and character of his squad at Kettering last night given they had played two cup games in the past week.

"It was a fantastic result," said Beadle.

"More the performance I think especially, take away what we did last week, these were a decent side, hard working, organised, a real threat going forward and for long periods of the game outside a few set pieces we killed all that.

"Our performance first half and the way we tried to get the ball down and move it on a difficult pitch I thought we did it really well at times.

"One thing that came out tonight was character, real good character, strong character, everybody dug in.

"Obviously we had a problem with Billy Murphy and his thigh, he came off at half time, Pablo stepped into the breach.

"Everyone has got through the game and been absolutely fantastic.

"A real stand out performance for me, take away the Fleetwood and Dagenham, that has been a real stand out performance"

The atmosphere was quite tense last night with supporters separated and the game very combative.

"I think they may have drummed that up a little bit, we certainly haven't.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game but all games we play always are, there's no difference in that.

"I think their manager mentioned something about 'it's a big game, we're looking forward to it, they'll know they've been in a game', but that's part of the course.

"We focus on us and what we do. Our talk was purely about going out and performing first and then making sure the result is right after the performance is right and we did exactly that."

Eliot Richards scored for Hereford after just seven minutes.

"It reasserted how dominant we were in the early part of the game and it was just what we needed to finish off the good play that we had.

"And then after that we worked hard and moved the ball really well on a difficult surface and we got a bit of good fortune with the second goal, a fantastic finish with John and it gave us a bit of breathing space going into half time."

Beadle made several changes to the starting eleven.

"We've got a big squad, good quality in the squad but it's not always about having the biggest squad or people talk about money, it's not about having the most money, you've still got to put a team out that has the right character and I think we've shown that in abundance tonight and I'm really proud of the players.

"One or two were disappointed they didn't play, Jamie Bird and Rob Purdie. Jimmy was a bit tired from his two cup games. Also you look Jack has had three in six days, so you look at him and a few others, they've been outstanding.

"We set our benchmark at the start of the season. Everyone looks at when they play Hereford home and away but all we focus on is game by game.

"We've had a really difficult game against a difficult side, who were well organised and with some good players going forward and we've coped with it superbly well and in the end throughly deserved our win.

"We got caught out a couple of times. More about communication and game management, we leave ourselves a bit open at times, we are 2-0 up why do we need to open up a bit more and leave ourselves wide open at the back but they defended like defenders should do, they got their bodies on the line, they blocked things.

"We were unlucky with their goal but we defended brilliantly. Everyone who has played in the back four has been brilliant all season.

"Dara has come in and played at right back today, Cameron at left back. Dara is only 18 and Cameron 19 going on 20. Big performances and they've shown what they are about and that's why they are here, we love having them here and we hope they will stay a bit longer and be part of something good for the season."
