Last Saturday at Edgar Street there was a cheque presentation to Hereford United Supporters Trust for £400 raised by friends of  Eric Nottingham who died on 4th July.

Eric's son Mark commented:

"My father was delighted to see Hereford FC founded and was an active supporter of the Trust so that fans would own the club. We felt that by buying more shares it would be a fitting tribute to what he worked towards.

"It was great that the match was against Telford (Wellington) a ground he had often seen Hereford play at."

Mark has also spoken to BN about Eric's life and his love of Hereford and Hereford United.

"My father Eric Nottingham born in 1930 first came to Edgar Street in 1944 when he paraded with scouts. They walked in from their camp at Redhill. He started at Hereford Technical College to study as an apprentice agricultural engineer.  That is when he first went to Hereford United. From then on he was a regular supporter for the rest of his life.

"He returned to Hereford Technical college as a lecturer in 1966 and moved to Tupsley. From then on he saw the majority of home games and many away.  He had been a season ticket holder for over 30 years when he died aged 86.

"He was very pleased to see the club reform and had been a regular supporter of supporters initiatives. In his youth he played for Woofferton FC and although he never played at Edgar Street he was very pleased to be a linesman at a supporters match and walk the hallowed turf.

"Dad had many highlights following Hereford and Hereford United driving a minibus to the Hawthorns for the third match against Northampton, being at Leicester when he said "I didn't think I would live long enough to see us return to the league."

"At Brentford for the unexpectedly early delight of promotion confirmation and the last two years enjoying faggots in the West Midlands and cream teas in the South and West. Dad was proud that he had seen Hereford on over 100 different grounds."
