Tiverton Striker In Need Of Surgery After Ten Facial Fractures

Tiverton's Jordan Rogers looks like he's been in a car crash following a clash of heads in Saturday's game at St. Neots, according to his manager.

An accidental clash between Rogers and St. Neots goalkeeper James Goff left him briefly unconscious, with the striker now waiting for surgery at Bristol Royal Infirmary.

In his 43 years as a player and manager, Tiverton Town's boss has said it's the worst injury he's seen.

Martyn Rogers told Devon Online: "It's the worst injury I've ever seen facially in my time.

"I've never seen anything as bad as that. He was a brave lad when he went for the ball and the full force of the keeper's head went into his face.

"It looks like he was in a car crash never mind a football game."

Now the swelling as gone down, Rogers is expected to undergo surgery tomorrow.

The ex-Taunton striker said in a statement earlier today: "I have ten fracture including nose, eye sockets and jaw. I am in hospital and feeling a lot better than I was.

"The swelling has gone down enough for me to have an operation possibly tomorrow (Thursday)."

James Goff, who's on loan to St. Neots from Northampton Town, has said he's sorry about what happened, and wished Rogers a speedy recovery.

Martyn Rogers explained the incident: "Levi Landricombe had chipped a ball through the centre, the ball bounced and the keeper came flying out.

"Jordan got there first and headed it towards goal, but he clattered into Jordan and headbutted him, basically."

Hereford face Tiverton in the league on Tuesday 24th October.
