Fantastic Result Said Beadle

Hereford manager Peter Beadle gave his thoughts on this afternoon 2-1 win at Eastleigh.

"Fantastic result,"said Beadle.

"You always, given the draw comes out, it was one we felt we were happy with.

"We felt we could come here and perform.

"Obviously you don't want to chance your arm too much but I felt if we performed well enough we were capable of winning here today.

"You can build the lads up we've got good players here, we've got good footballers here with good footballing brains and they play the game with heart.

"And when you do that and you put it all together we gave a second half display and yes it was backs to the wall at times and it wasn't quite as pretty but we stood firm and we had those ten yellow shirts in front of the ball and we dogged it out, saw it through.

"They never ever cut us open from open play.

"We said at halftime if they were going to get back in the game it would be from a set piece and we need to make sure we are switched on and the one time we switch off we get caught.

"Simo loses his man, ball watching and the fellow heads it in.

"After that they chucked a few more balls in there but the back five and the four in front of them and the two in front of them were excellent to a man."

Eastleigh were a physically strong team but Hereford more skillfull?

"I think we were better than them in the way we played, in the style we played. Obviously they are a big strong side and have lots of league experience in their team but sometimes when you come to places like this you need to have a bit of luck, you need your players to perform well and we did.

"And as we've said before if we perform well, play well and everyone turns up on the day we'll give anybody a game.

"We knew their threat would be more physical than technical but we stood up to it. We knew what would come and we got through it and I'm proud of everyone of them. Brilliant."

Beadle was asked about Garyn Preen who was taken to hospital following a head injury.

"He has been taken to hospital. Luckily his dad was here so he went with him. We'll find out more in the next twenty minutes how he is. Certainly the likelyhood of a concussion of some sort by the sounds of it, by the way he was. One or two players said he was convulsing a little bit. It was a nasty impact, he had a mouthfull of grass which shows how hard he has hit the ground.

"So hopefully, fingers crossed it's nothing too serious, and it is just that impact injury. It was the spur of the moment, 24 hours and he'll have a bit of a headache and hopefully after that he'll be okay. We'll just have to wait and see when we speak to the hospital."

Beadle was asked about the challenge, the referee didn't give a free kick.

"It was a long way away but some of the boys who were close to it said it wasn't a foul, it was a heavy challenge but wasn't a foul. The boys didn't react to it as a foul, they were more concerned about Garyn which was good to see and not getting involved with some of the antics they were giving out. We hope it's a speedy recovery for him."

Eastleigh were given two red cards during the game and became quite frustrated at times.

"I think that's where they are at the moment. They've got good players here and good coaching staff here but things aren't going their way at the moment and that's what happens when things don't go your way, sometimes you get frustrated but you have to control that and try to be disciplined which is difficult. It's not easy to control that discipline sometimes.

"The first one was a straight red, that could happen anytime.

"Mike just got there before him and the lad has made a genuine attempt to get the ball but unfortunately he stopped Mike.

"The second one was reckless and not neccessary to be fair."

Great support again today.

"Brilliant, we've run out of things to say about them. They get behind the team and even more so today as for the first time in a long, long time we've been underdogs.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game but if you had asked anybody, hand on heart, do you think we can get a result 95% would have probably said no but they didn't and they stuck with us and we've rewarded them with a first round draw which is superb."

Who would you like to play in the first round proper? A former club?

"How many of them are in the cup? I don't know.

"It's the luck of the draw, if you get a nice one, Wigan, Blackburn away from home maybe.

"Or anyone at Edgar Street. It would be nice to play at home with a full house . May be play it on a Friday under the lights. I'm getting all nostalic. Live on TV. That would all be a bonus, help us on our way on our quest to keep this momentum going, this fantastic momentum, all the credit goes to the players.

"We've had a few changes this year. We went to Banbury last Tuesday and did exceptionally well with some changes and today done very well against a really good side so we just want to keep it going for as long as we can and enjoy this FA Cup run.

"Hopefully we get a bit of luck and a really nice draw in the first round proper. Hereford FC first round proper!"
